Review:
The Corner Pin is a fairly traditional pub unfortunately situated in a really bad area of town, right next to three of the worst offending late night establishments where frequently trouble erupts. This aside it’s not a bad little pub and mostly the clientele are not those that cause problems, it’s a strange mix of older couples paired with quite loud dance music, so a bit of a contradicting atmosphere. The building has good access and three distinct low beamed rooms, the rear being wood panelled and with a cosy fireplace. The main bar is quite small and about what you’d expect from a standard boozer, just three very average real ales at pretty average prices. A recent refurb in 2015 has lifted the interior tying all the rooms together with a cleaner look and opening out the conservatory extension with better seating, it’s nothing remarkable though. The toilets are small and okay but do have the smallest sink we’ve ever seen. There’s a small walled beer garden with some more seating but it’s not the nicest area of town to enjoy alfresco. Luckily we visited fairly early on as we always stay away from this area of town and wouldn’t really recommend going anywhere near there on a usual night, so it was pretty peaceful but we can imagine the clientele could change somewhat later on. It’s a shame as the location is definitely a major factor at bringing the score of The Corner Pin down, maybe this venue will always be plagued by this, but nothing much has really changed over the years there to make us see that this could become anything more than distinctly below average.
