The Grand Old Tour of York
Welcome to York! This is our recommended pub crawl for someone new to the City or residents who just want to experience what York has to offer. Taking in some of the best, unique and historic pubs in one grand tour. *Please be aware The Blue Bell does not accept large groups. |
The Snickelways Pub Crawl
Inspired by the 1983 book ‘A Walk around the Snickelways of York’ by Mark W. Jones, we’ve taken all the best bits of the route and combined them with great pubs to form an entertaining and informative pub crawl around York. A Snickelway for those who aren’t local is defined as “a narrow place to walk along, leading from somewhere to somewhere else, usually in a town or city, especially in the city of York”. All the Snickelways are marked in orange with their name. We had to miss off some sections from the original book as they are either closed after dusk or no longer accessible. |
The Luck Cat Ale Trail
A remnant of York’s medieval past are a selection of cat statues and sculpture that adorn buildings throughout the City which were originally supposed to scare off mice and rats that could carry plague. In recent years York Glass Ltd. on the Shambles has compiled all their locations with the popular Lucky Cat Trail, it looked such good fun that we thought we’d put together our very own Pub Crawl based around the locations of most of the cats. If you want more details on cat locations it might be worth printing a copy of their map as well. See if after a few pints you can still spot them all, happy hunting! |
Haunted York Pub Crawl
As one of the most haunted Cities in the World York boasts a staggering amount of ghosts, many of which inhabit its old pubs and ancient streets. To explore and celebrate these hauntings we have put together a Pub Crawl which visits York's most haunted pubs while following a route around the City past some of its most notable hauntings. After visiting 8 spooky pubs maybe you'll experience the supernatural too, although we do advocate sensible drinking. We’ve marked out as many ghosts as we can on the map along the route and you can also download our Ghost Guide which give a bit of information about each ghost at the Pubs. |
The Walkies Pub Crawl
Fancy a pub crawl but don’t want to leave your four-legged friend at home? We have the perfect solution. So get ready to shout “walkies” for a pub crawl that takes you to some of York’s most dog friendly pubs. With a meandering route through some of the more leafy areas of the City. Including two pleasant riverside strolls, the green grass of the Museum Gardens and Dean’s Park. Travelling mostly away from main traffic routes and with just enough distance between the pubs to keep you and your dog happy. |
The Micklegate Run
Micklegate has come so far in the last few years so we felt it was time to resurrect the old York tradition of the Micklegate Run. Finally the street looks worthy of the pub crawl to return. Of course this is a Within the Walls version, only including our favourites, but we hope that this relaunch will bring more people up to this brilliant street of pubs to see that the once poor reputation no longer stands. |
The Alfresco Amble
The sun is out and the York beer gardens are calling, so why not follow our pub crawl based upon our very favorite outdoor drinking areas. For a detailed breakdown on our top 20 York Pub Beer Gardens we also have a more detailed guide which you can find here. |
All the files are free to download but we welcome any small donations toward the work put in to create these routes for you.
