Review:
Situated in prime location right by the main section of the river Ouse, Revolution swallows up the majority of the old Yorkshire Herald building, once two separate bars it now sprawls like a vast cattle market throughout. With its bang on trend urban industrial décor it actually is quite a beautiful bar, it’s just a shame about the crowds that it attracts. The ground floor is vast area dotted with tables, sofas and the usual selection of mismatched furniture. There are two large bars to que at for hours until you realise that the full selection behind the bar that doesn’t contain some nasty flavoured vodka is an overpriced run-of-the-mill keg lager. Now don’t get me wrong I’ll try to be a bit fairer about Revolution, just because we hate it doesn’t mean everyone will. It’s demographic is quite far away from real ale drinkers like us and as it goes for a chain bar its location is what appeals. It is always busy and has plenty of entertainment, usually from DJs. The access is superb throughout the ground floor and right out onto the riverside balcony. Upstairs is a slightly quieter area and unisex toilets which aren’t bad considering the hammering they take each weekend. But the real crowning jewel of Revolution, the one that pulls it up into a two star, is the excellent riverside seating area along the front of the building on the boardwalk and an even larger beer garden to the side with ample seating. So if you like chain bars, vodka, cocktails, loud noise and shouty people you should really pop by in summer and check out the beer garden, we on the other hand will be steering very clear.
