Review:
The Attic by Night is a rather hard place to find unless you know what you’re looking for and not many people know that this top floor of the coffee house Harlequin now has a normal bar licence on a weekend. But that’s probably a good thing as it’s a pleasant surprise to find the attic gallery room hidden away up many, many flights of stairs; it almost feels like a secret club. Now with an impressive number of keg lines of international and local craft beers you don’t begrudge them for not having cask as after all it’s a pretty small room at the top of a three story building. The bar has a very trendy vibe with independent artwork displayed, low sofas and warm ambient lighting with very friendly and attentive staff. It really is the hipster coffee house vibe with the added bonus of beer, and the views across King’s Square are very striking too. The bar has a peaceful atmosphere with good background music away from the hustle and bustle, a good date night venue. Unfortunately some of the things that make it unique also let it down, obviously the only access is up three flights of stairs and the two single toilets are situated on the first floor within the Harlequin cafe, which can be a bit weird walking through a closed off area, they’re nice enough though. Also being a little restricted to keg beers means the price can be quite high, but we’d definitely recommend popping in and trying it out, it’s nice to find somewhere that’s a little different to the usual pub venue.
