-Wildes-
Review:
Wildes Wine Bar & Bistro is a quaint French themed café bar nestled in the corner of Grape Lane, a very narrow building which follows the alley of Coffee Yard which cuts under the restaurant Nineteen. It is shadowed by a jumble of buildings and very much an integrated part of the Swinegate Quarter. Inside you are greeted by a small narrow bar with seating areas to each side. The ambience is very much in the Parisian vein, with bistro chairs, wooden flooring and a light airy space. Unfortunately the bar is very limited for the beer drinker; just a couple of generic lager kegs and a small mixed selection of bottles, prices were average for the area. Upstairs there is more light and airy space in the shape of a conservatory room which leads through to the tiny single toilet, which was clean and functional. Outside to the rear is a small yard between the buildings shared with the Slug & Lettuce which is nice enough and quite a peaceful retreat. All in all if the beer selection was better this pleasant little bar would have scored much higher but it seems content to function more as a Bistro than a bar and there isn’t much that would tempt us back when there is much better choice in the immediate area.
